Maku is one of the largest Free Zones in the world with more than 300 historical sites. This mountainous region, which is also very beautiful in nature, is known for the hospitality and rich culture of its people, local cuisine, handicrafts and souvenirs. Mako is called a rock city, due to its special geographical location.

The Maku Free Zone, along with its high mountains, which is a suitable space for air sports, has vast and beautiful plains, which are among the valuable and important habitats of the region. The Agh Gol protected zone, with its unique wildlife, is one of those habitats. Maku Basaltic Charters fascinate every viewer with their regular volcanic columns. Qara Church or the Church of St. Thaddeus, which is said to have been built in 300 AD, the tomb of Ivan Farhad's crypt (Farhad's roof) which dates back to the eighth century BC, the garden palace of Jogh Maku with its special and beautiful architecture, the beautiful lake of Baron Dam which is also suitable for fishing, and the beautiful waterfalls of this region, along with thousands of other natural and historical attractions, have made the Maku Zone Free Zone as one of the most important tourist destinations in the country.

Maku has a relatively cold and dry climate, with relatively hot summers and cold winters. The best time to visit the Zone is late winter and early spring.

Many residence and recreational facilities have been built in this Zone for tourists. In addition to those facilities, various commercial centers, including the large Border Market of the Zone, are also among the other tourist attractions of this Zone.
